SFH

SFH was an experimental electronic music unit active in Tokyo’s underground and alternative music scenes throughout the 2000s and early 2010s.

Musical Style & Approach

Sound Design

SFH traversed ambient, electronica, drone, minimal, and avant-garde electronic music, often incorporating subtle nods to Krautrock and abstract beats. Their sound was characterized by floating textures and deeply immersive, improvisational soundscapes.

Hardware & Gear

Their productions relied heavily on hardware instruments—vintage analog synthesizers, early hardware samplers, modular gear, and modular pedal chains—to craft rich, tactile audio textures.

The "Sound Leaves" Event Series

A central pillar of SFH’s activity was their self-curated event series, "Sound Leaves."

Audio-Visual Integration

Rather than treating projections as mere background decor, Sound Leaves emphasized a tightly synchronized experience where live sound and real-time visual projections (VJing) formed a cohesive, organic space.

Core Venues

The events were frequently held at key Tokyo hubs for experimental and alternative art, such as Loop-Line in Sendagaya and Bar Drop in Kichijoji, continuing across more than ten installments (reaching Vol. 11 and beyond).

Cross-Disciplinary Collaborations

Alongside fellow electronic acts (such as Live Euphony), the series regularly featured guest appearances from other artistic disciplines, including live painters, creating spontaneous cross-media sessions.

Setting themselves apart from mainstream club music, SFH focused on building deep listening environments paired with carefully sculpted visual-acoustic atmospheres.
